If you love taking animal pictures then this article will give you some helpful tips that you can start using immediately. Animal photography, also referred to as wildlife photography, includes everything from polar bears to your pet at home. This article focuses on wildlife photography but you can apply many of these tips to taking photos of your own pets.
The basics to taking great wildlife pictures start with these tips. As always there are exceptions, but the following go a long ways towards ensuring successful animal photography:
– Always use natural light to your advantage.
– Fill the frame with the subject.
– Focus on the eyes.
– Shoot from various angles.
– Capture personality.
Perhaps you are wondering how you can, without a humongous lens and SLR safely get close enough to a wild animal to “capture personality” or “fill the frame”?
Actually even professional wildlife photographers don’t always take their winning photographs in the wild. Most of the wonderful pictures you see of wolves, polar bears and other wild creatures were taken at wildlife sanctuaries and zoos. Cheating? Maybe, but it’s safer for the photographer and doesn’t disturb their free roaming cousins’ mating and feeding cycles.
Some of the wildlife sanctuaries give special photo tours but if that’s not possible, there are many things you can do to get professional quality photos with a compact camera.
Animal Photography Tips for Wildlife Sanctuaries and Zoos
1) Simplify the Composition
If the background is distracting, use a wide aperture or Portrait mode to blur it. Or, you can use a photo editor like Photoshop to clean up or blur the background.
2) Go Natural
Avoid showing cage bars, fences, humans, signs, etc. If it is safe and abides by the rules, point the lens through a gap in the fence so you can take the photo without the fence showing. Often times there is a vantage point that will let you take pictures over the top of the fence. Look for these opportunities. Again, use a photo editor to blur what you couldn’t avoid when shooting the picture.
3) Fill the Frame
Use zoom (optical for best quality) or a telephoto lens to get close ups.
4) Sports Mode
Use Sports mode or set shutter speed priority to around 1/250 to freeze movements.
5) Use Light and Weather to Best Effect
Overcast days are often best for animal photography. If the overcast isn’t too bright, it will prevent glare from light colored or watery backgrounds. If you have an SLR and the overcast light is too dark, raise the ISO. With the right amount of overcast, you can get well exposed, sharp pictures with your compact, and the animals won’t be squinting.
Since the eyes are the most expressive and the best place to focus, try to avoid any squinting. Another way to eliminate this is photograph when the animal’s back is to sun. In this case you’ll need to use flash fill (by turning off your automatic flash and setting it to “on”) to help prevent underexposure and you’ll need to use a lens hood or wear a broad brimmed hat to prevent lens flare.
6) Try this When Shooting through Glass
When you want a picture of a terrarium or aquarium critter, turn on the flash and shoot from an angle. Make sure to check your camera manual for the safe distance when using the flash or you could damage an animals (or humans) eyes. Or, turn off the flash and carefully press the lens directly against the glass.
7) Plan your Visits for the Best Photo Ops
Others will especially love seeing your animal photography when it includes baby animals. Many times zoos and sanctuaries will let visitors know when new babies are expected. Another great photo opportunity is meal time. Animals that stay in hiding throughout much of the day will come out to eat. Finally, if you’re visiting a sanctuary or zoo when the weather’s hot, go early in the day when the animals will be most active, not napping.
8) Use Context
While usually it’s best to fill the frame with the animal, sometimes the context is too interesting to bypass. Examples of using context: a child and baby animal looking at each other, a giraffe, long neck bent as it peers down at a car in front of yours at the drive-through safari park.
9) Capture Expressions
Animals, whether our pets or wildlife, make the cutest expressions. Be ready with your camera! Even just normal expressions like a wolf pup yawning or a tiger licking its lips are cute or interesting. The more you know about your favorite species, the better you’ll be able to capture those unforgettable pictures.
So, the next time you’re ready to take some wildlife pictures, use these animal photo tips and you’ll be amazed at the difference applying this tips can have on your photos.
Juggling the day to day running of a photography business can take time & efforts on your part. This is the work which no one likes, paperwork, invoices, etc. Important thing is not to replicate and duplicate things, this takes up more time than we realise and lost time equals losing money. Every business (photography or not) needs to have a system in place. Keeping track of your contacts, equipment, jobs, sales, purchases, marketing, diary & products and a lot more.
Many photographers use a spreadsheet to run their business. Spreadsheets are fine if you want to crunch numbers and perform automatic calculations, create charts, ‘what if’ scenarios or keep track of simple list of data. However, you will end up entering the same values of information into multiple spreadsheets. This is not time efficient and you need to update different files if you are tracking related information in several spreadsheets. When you use a spreadsheet, viewing the set of data is not easy and quite often requires lots of scrolling to view it!!
Alternative to spreadsheets is a database management system which will simplify your work and allow you more time to do whatever you want, whether being behind the camera or with your family! A database will help you manage all your day to day business tasks with ease, answer questions and solve problems, link related data, view data in different ways and a lot lot more…
Here is what you need to do simplify your day to day tasks:
1. Keeping track of your contacts i.e leads, customers, suppliers,
2. Sending quotations and confirmations of bookings in a professionally laid out PDF format
3. Manage your work flow tasks / reminders for things to do on specific dates
4. Raising sales invoices / inputting purchase invoices
5. Linking expenses / purchases to jobs for precise cost analysis
6. Sending / creating delivery notes to clients
7. Sending remittance notes to suppliers for payment
8. Email marketing to get your message across
9. Keeping track of all your camera / lenses / software serial numbers
10. Mail merging and sending letters to clients & prospects
11. Creating reports to see your sales, purchases, expenses
12. Forecasting figures v actual figures
13. Keeping track of appointments with a diary
14. and a lot more…..
Can you imagine trying to do all the above with spreadsheets, you cannot. It is possible but you will end up replicating and duplicating things and is very time consuming. What you need is to get or create your own database which will speed up your administrative tasks. If you are good with programming, you can create simple databases, but this will be time-consuming for you or you can buy an off-the-shelf program which is made for photographers.
So if you are starting a new photography business or in need of getting organised. I recommend you get a database and see how it will transform your business.
Are you a college student on a shoestring budget? Perhaps you would not be able to spend money at will, even if it was for books, tuition and course fee. Hence you should be most likely searching for an effective way to purchase text books at great discounts. Here is a piece of good news. You can now find copies of titles such as Principles of Instrumental Analysis 6th Edition and Engineering Circuit Analysis 8th Edition online, and guess what; these books are brought to you at a heavily discounted price, way lesser than the market retail price.
When it boils down to buying textbooks, it is very important that one evaluates different options available in terms of price and discount. One common mistake that most students do is to not compare the rates of one book provider to another. They grab the very first offer they are made, hoping they would not find a better deal anyway. Obtaining significant savings on your purchase is not a possibility until you search more, look for more options that are equally good, and hard to tell between. So, take it as a piece of advice. Do not order and pay money for the very first deal you come across. Famous books such as Principles of Instrumental Analysis 6th Edition and Engineering Circuit Analysis 8th Edition online are being offered at extremely competitive rates to help students who are in need to save money and use it for something equally important.
Although you need to consider a lot of things before you go online and make an order for the text books you prefer, however, in general, there are two things that you have to flirt with. Two parameters that you should not miss to notice in online text book providers. Number 1 on the list is, as you guessed it, price. And the other one is availability of the text books. Several websites that are into this business do not stock up on books , hence, you might not get the text book in hand when you want it, therefore, make sure that the website that you choose has stocked up on the titles that you would like to buy. Estimate the charges incurred for delivery.
Keep all these things in mind and consider a provider as good as PriorityTextbook- a significant player on the online market where you can find books such as Principles of Instrumental Analysis 6th Edition and Engineering Circuit Analysis 8th Edition amongst others. They have been of great support to students who want to enjoy discounted prices of text books online.
They stock up on several books, so you wont see a no stock, check later board on their website. They offer the best price on the market, and whats more, they dispatch their orders on time, thus helping students to receive their titles quite soon. Yes, they work with DHL and UPS to make sure that delivery happens on time every time.
Algebra is a very difficult subject for a large majority of people. Adults took algebra in high school, but few remember the skills. This causes a problem when their children ask for algebra help.
Students of algebra today need even more help than adults did. The reason is because of the age of current algebra students. Most students take algebra now in the 7th or 8th grade of school.
This can be difficult as there are some difficult concepts in algebra. Thirteen and fourteen year olds are struggling with this daily. Their brains are learning problem solving and critical thinking.
Thus, these students need more assistance from parents today. However, parents struggle with remembering all the concepts as well. Algebra concepts or problems are very intricate and detailed.
There are ways to help these young adolescents in this type of math. One particular way is for teachers to increase student engagement. The more engaged they are the more prone they are to understanding. Various ways are available to engage students in math classes. One particular method is to use an algebra cartoon in practice. An algebra cartoon is a visual representation for students to see.
A humorous algebra cartoon is most often found in an algebra game. An algebra game may include various animals as an algebra cartoon. The algebra game is created for use on a PC or Macintosh computer.
An algebra game involves both game elements and math practice. Students move through the algebra game by completing challenges. These challenges include problems presented in a story format.
This is where the game elements students prefer come into play. The challenges or story format involve the game’s characters. The students are pretending to be the character by playing the game.
Various levels of difficulty exist in algebra games on the computer. However, they are not exposed to the levels until they master others. This is a precaution of algebra games being sold and offered.
Many firms offer algebra games for purchase on their websites. Some algebra games are more innovative than other games created. These algebra games are developed to engage students in game settings.
The more students are engaged the more they play the algebra game. More play time results in more practice of vital algebra skills. This cumulates into a final result of a successful algebra student.

What Exactly Are The Profit Instruments All About?
For the past couple of months, Ritoban, the owner of this course, has been making money building small niche websites that he calls Profit Instruments. In total so far, he has accumulated more than $250,000 in total earnings with his sites and has packed all his experience and knowledge about Internet marketing into this new course.
Because Ritoban likes to target very specific niche keywords such as only the product name using his blogs, I have found that most of the traffic visiting my sites are very targeted by nature and can be converted very easily to customers and subscribers. They are also very easy to optimize in the search engines by targeting only the specific product titles.
How Much Time Do You Have to Spend in Order to Generate a Full Time Income from Profit Instruments?

Thus, depending on your own time schedule and money you can afford to invest, you can actually start to actually outsource most of the tasks and spend more of your time looking for other products to promote. Many of the products sold can bring in a residual income, and this is exactly how Ritoban managed to accumulate his fortune and will continue to do so in the future.
Reviews of some horror movies I’ve watched.
Resident Evil: Extinction
In this third installment the entire planet has been overrun by zombie creatures, and Milla Jovovich tries to survive in this Mad Max-like world. Several scenes seem “borrowed” from other movies, like the bird attack straight out of Hitchcock’s “The Birds.” I wasn’t impressed with the CGI, and there’s no real tension in the movie – but there is some nice kick-butt-zombie-action. If you liked the first two “Resident Evil” movies, you’ll enjoy this one as well. Grade: 3 out of 5
In a chilling winter landscape two college students crash with their car. Soon they encounter ghosts. There’s a very creepy atmosphere in this movie, and the acting is excellent. But the movie is also painfully slow, and it’s far between the scares. More drama than horror. Grade: 2 out of 5
Decent 2007 remake of the original Rutger Hauer movie. A young couple on their way to spring break pick up a dangerous hitchhiker, who turns their lives into a nightmare. This time around we se Sean Bean as the hitcher, and he always delivers. Despite some plot holes this is an okay remake, but I prefer the original. Grade: 3 out of 5
From the directors of “Shutter” come this better-than-average ghost horror from Thailand. It’s about a dead siamese twin that comes back to haunt the sister who is alive. I really wanted to give this movie a higher grade, but I can’t because the ghost scares and the twist are very predictable – but it’s a pretty solid movie anyway. Grade: 3 out of 5
Middle-of-the-road thriller where Sandra Bullock loses her husband in a car accident. But a few days later he’s alive again. Was his death just a premonition of what to come, and can she stop it? The movie is slow paced and confusing as it jumps back and forth in the story. The suspense is almost non-existent, but there are some touching moments between the characters. The movie held my interest to somewhere around the halfway mark, then I got tired of it. Grade: 2 out of 5
Michelle Rodriguez just doesn’t have any luck with islands. First “Lost” and now this. A bunch of friends arriving at an island are attacked by genetically manipulated rabid dogs. And the dogs are real, no CGI dogs, thank you very much. There are some suspenseful scenes, and the movie is better than I expected, but it’s not good enough. Grade: 2 out of 5
CANNES – A documentary using small clay figurines to tell the story of how Cambodian filmmaker Rithy Panh’s family perished under the Khmer Rouge regime won the top prize in the second most important competition at the Cannes film festival on Saturday.
L’Image Manquante (The Missing Picture) was among the 18 films that premiered in the Un Certain Regard category that was set up to encourage emerging and innovative filmmakers and run alongside the main competition at the world’s top film festival.
Panh, 49, a prolific filmmaker whose films concentrate on the brutality in Cambodia when an estimated 1.7 million people were killed during the 1975-79 Khmer Rouge regime, said the prize was important for his country.
For a country that has emerged from its difficulties and years of war, it is important to say we are still alive,” Panh told Reuters after receiving his award at a red carpet ceremony in the French Riviera resort.
The jury led by Danish director Thomas Vinterberg, whose film Jagten (The Hunt) won Mads Mikkelsen the best actor award at Cannes last year, described the documentary as one of the most powerful films I have seen in many years”.
The runner-up was Omar by Palestinian director Hany Abu-Assad, a political thriller involving Palestinians living under Israeli occupation in which a young baker, Omar, is tortured by Israel’s secret police to betray his friends.
Omar, which was shot in the West Bank and Israeli-Arab town of Nazareth last year, received a standing ovation at its premiere as the first film fully funded by the Palestinian cinema industry.
It is the only festival that I think still cares about different films,” said Abu-Assad, known for the 2005 award-winning film Paradise Now, as he received his award.
Another director in Un Certain Regard to get a standing ovation was Iran’s Mohammad Rasoulof who was jailed in 2010 for anti-regime propaganda but came to Cannes this year with Manuscripts Don’t Burn, shot in secret in his home country.
The non-professional actors of La Jaula de Oro (The Golden Cage), a film about three young Guatemalans trying to cross the Mexico-U.S. border from director Diego Quemada-Diez won an award for best cast.
I have been advocating the use of ghillie suits in the observation of wildlife and birding for years. When Adam Grimm recently bought his ghillie poncho from ghilliesandstuff, I was pleased to discover that he used his ghillie suit extensively in his work and past time as a wildlife artist. As you can see from some of the examples of his work here, Adam is an extremely talented and professional artist. He has been kind enough to allow me to display some of his copywrited works here and on my website. My hunting visitors will probably be most interested in the game birds such as the turkeys, pheasant, and the ducks. As you can see Adam has also painted some remarkable songbirds as well.
Adam sent me some really cool shots of himself at work in his ghillie suit. He is as good as I have seen in the use of a ghillie suit. Not all of us have the artistic eye to match our terrain as closely as Adam has, but with effort and diligence we can get as close as is necessary for excellent results. If you notice, He likes to do birds in the snow so I expect at some point he will be getting a white ghillie poncho. By strategically adding some black and some brown threads he will end up with an authentic looking snow covered bush.
Adam carries his equipment to his working site on a sled and then either sinks the sled in the water or covers it with a spare ghillie suit. Of the ghillie suit pictures he sent me, I find the one with him standing chest deep in the water the most intriguing. That is real dedication. Definitely not something to try in the gulf coastal states where you find so many snakes, alligators, and in south Florida, pythons.
The other ghillie suit pictures are posed mainly to show off the effectiveness of the ghillie suit. The only reason you can see his face and such is he posed that way for demonstration purposes. Note that in a couple of the shots, you cannot see him at all.
I have a page dedicated to Adam’s work on my ghillie suit gallery. I intend to also have page for hunting pictures and another for paintball pictures. If you would like to see your pictures in the gallery, contact me, James, at 704-620-2652 or by email at
