While photography is certainly a fun hobby and can lead to great personal fulfillment, it is also a high-skill profession that thousands of people use to pay their bills every single day. Not everyone can be a photographer for Sports Illustrated or Glamour but that doesn’t mean that you can’t make a good living from photography. Microstock photography, for instance, is a relatively new concept and a great way to make a little extra cash.
Understanding Microstock Photography
In order to understand microstock photography, you should first understand “stock” photography. Stock photography refers to photographs that are licensed for a wide range of uses. For instance, a photo of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco could be a stock photo, which could be used in magazines, ads, calendars, or whatever else the person who buys it wants to do.
Microstock photography is similar, only the images sell for less and can be uploaded by anyone with high-quality material. Essentially, you make as much money as possible by selling many images at a lower cost. Fotalia, Shutterstock, and iStockphoto are all great websites for this purpose.
What You Need to Do to Get Started
Getting started with microstock is easier than you think. The two things you’ll need is a basic editing and shooting setup but you can find these very inexpensively. You’ll need a digital SLR as well as some photo editing software (preferably free) like Paint.net or until you’re ready to move on to a more robust professional version.
Once you have the gear in order, all you need to do is shoot a bunch of photographs to prepare for the initial application process. If you want your images to sell, focus on subjects that are easy to sell in markets like business, home decor or other lifestyle themes. Try and bring something to the market that a person buying photographs would be looking for, but wouldn’t be able to find elsewhere. It is important to remember that your images cannot contain copyrighted or trademarked subjects, and if they feature a person’s face you’ll need a signed release from the model.
Before you upload any images, check out the site and see what types of photographs they offer as this will give you a good idea of the types of images that will likely sell. Once you have a solid portfolio, choose a site (or sites) you like and start submitting your photos for review. Pay close attention to the training materials and description the sites provide and make sure your portfolio completely fits within their guidelines, otherwise you may be denied.
Making Money Using Microstock
Unlike regular stock photography, microstock is all about quantity. Just remember that the more pictures you upload, the better your chance at making money. There are people that make thousands a month working in microstock, but it is important to note that these people also use it as their full time job and upload hundreds of photos. if you can invest the time needed to do the job, the income potential is truly endless.
The best thing to do is to start small and see if you can get a grasp on what works best for you. If microstock seems to be your thing and you can see yourself making a healthy profit doing it, focus more time and energy on it and upload as many photos as you possibly can. If it doesn’t feel like a good fit, try looking for other photo opportunities that are more suited to your schedule or your images. You should always have fun and enjoy taking pictures so find something that works best for you and you’ll end up shooting images that everyone will admire!
Pets provide a high level of enjoyment to people of all ages. They are playmates with young kids, an exercise buddy for middle aged couples and a companion to the elderly. Research has actually shown that widows that have a cat or dog actually live longer than those without a pet.
They can help relieve stress, but most important, a pet is a true friend. A pet is loyal and will not bad mouth you to all the other neighbourhood animals. They require attention, but in return, will give you so much more.
So it’s no surprise that animal owners like get images of their furry friends. Unfortunately the average life span of a cat or dog can be anywhere between 8 and 16 years, so holding on to long lasting memories can be very important. Similarly, pet owners see their animal as a family member and want to have photos of them up around the house, like they would a daughter or son.
Because of this, pet photography is big business, all over the world. Being able to capture animals at their cutest or most exciting is no easy task, and a professional pet photographer can demand good money for their services. Specialist photographers have extensive experience taking photos in their specific niche, so an animal photographer knows exactly what does and doesn’t work when it comes shooting (with a camera) a dog, cat, guinea pig or whatever pet you might have.
You may choose to get your pet photographed on its own, with its favourite toy, or with your whole family. Generally, the photographer will ask what kind of photos you’d like, but then also suggest some ideas they think would work well. In the modern age of digital cameras, it allows them to take dozens of photos without driving up the price of the session,
and only choosing the select few that look best.
Don’t try and get too creative though. Pets wearing clothes might seem “cute” to you but it may look cringeworthy to others. If you are planning on having the photo mounted on your wall at home that friends will see, ensure the image is something that people will appreciate, and that captures the personalitly of your animal.
If budget is an issue to you, you might look to submit your photos to a women’s magazine, or local photography competition. These places often offer cash prizes for winning photos, which would help pay for them in the first place! Be sure to check with the photographer first that it’s okay to do this.
So get the pet photographer to be creative and try lots of different shots from multiple angles. This will maximise the chances of getting the perfect photo of your perfect friend!
A rather ambiguous terminology some would say. Abstract photography is a genre of photography that lends itself to the exploration of various means of communication. When shooting abstract, it is important to have a good visual awareness about your subject, as abstract photography relies on shapes, forms and texture that is representative to its true to form.
Abstract whether in art or photography form, can be very personal. We are all familiar with Pollock, Kandinsky and Picasso, great 20th century artists that painted based on their environment and live experiences. Like them or not, they were great painters that had portrayed great visual content in abstract form.
Choosing a subject of abstract form can be very challenging. However, abstract photography can be very fulfilling, in that, it opens the mind to a brand new visual experience, one that stimulates the imagination beyond the normality of perspective.
Abstract photography is not just about shooting the image in its entirety. The perception of abstract photography has intrinsic values. The photographer not only concentrates on lines, forms and textures, but the compatibility of colours along with composition to achieve a great image. Abstract photography is the abstraction of part of an image that makes up the whole image. You remove all aspects of the image to reveal its artistic value.
It is amazing what you can find to photograph in an abstract way. Look around your home, your food cupboard, your fruit bowl and jewellery, all these make an ideal subject and will challenge your creativeness. Most abstract photography requires close focus to do it any justice. For example; you can use a 110mm macro lens that allows you to be 2cm away from your subject or, any short lens that allows you to focus in closely.
To make your subject even more interesting, try spraying water on it or vary your lighting with various filters. This will not just enhance the image, but will transform it into something captivating and intriguing to the viewer. When editing your image in Photoshop, de-saturating the image to black and white and then adding little colour brings out key aspects of the image.
In essence, abstract photography is not a true reflection of the natural world. This is the beauty of it. It concentrates on a certain characteristic of the subject in an aesthetic way, and so the abstraction of a particular image becomes art. It draws you in and challenges you, it can move you, and it compels you to ask questions. It can be minimal, busy, colourful, dark and mysterious. You do not have to be a professional photographer to produce good abstract photography, nevertheless having some knowledge of the equipment and a good visual awareness will make this a fun thing to do whether for a hobby or professional pursuits.

Actress Leven Rambin, best known for her role as Sloan, Mark Sloans daughter in Greys Anatomy, is engaged to film producer Geoff Clark after dating for just six months. Geoff Clark proposed to Leven Rambin while walking along a beach in the Bahamas over New Years. But was Clark moving too fast?
No way, according to the 19-year-old actress, who met her fianc through their mutual friend, celeb photographer Tyler Shields.
“Little did Geoff know that I was praying for him to propose,” Rambin tells PEOPLE. “I knew I wanted it to happen.”
Clark, 28, says Rambin is “extremely happy” and “almost like a whole new person,” since getting engaged.
He acknowledges that in the past, when Rambin lived in New York City filming All My Children, local gossip columns depicted her as a party girl, but he says shes changed.
“She used to be a wild child of sorts, but shes definitely settled down,” he tells PEOPLE. “I dont want to say its because of me, but I think having some sort of faith in God, as opposed to having to rely on herself helped.”
Rambin also laughs off criticism that at 19 shes too young to get married. “I dont think Im too young. Ive had a very full life,” she says. “As a Christian, I think its really important to find a man of God to trust and be supportive of me. Ive never met anyone like Geoff.”
Rambin helped design her engagement ring with Kendra Bridel Weinman of the custom-made jewelry line Lusciouss. “I really wanted something that looked antiquey and unique,” she says of the sparkler, which consists of a pink tourmaline stone, floral detailing, and a platinum band. “Its very feminine and very me.”
Rambin and Clark havent set a date for their nuptials, but she has a location in mind. “Id love to have the wedding in the Bahamas where we got engaged. Itll always be close to my heart,” says Rambin, who counts socialite Lydia Hearst among her BFFs.
As for the timing of the wedding, “Well probably do it either the end of this year or next summer,” says Rambin. “I would marry him tomorrow in an elopement, but I really want it to be a proper ceremony. Im not a really good organized bride-to-be. Im definitely not a bridezilla!”
If you have a wedding photography or digital photography blog, getting free targeted traffic is heavily based on where you are sitting on the SERPs listings. In other words if you type in your keywords that you are campaigning for on Google, have a look to see where you are ranked.
Trying to improve your rankings on Google is known as Search engine optimisation or SEO. Google ranks websites based on the external backlinks pointing to a given site and is also determined by the quality of the link and its relevance.
The higher up you are on the search display the higher the page rank and the more traffic you will receive for that particular keyword.
Improving your rankings is by getting backlinks to your site which have the Dofollow tags in the website source. One method is known as blog commenting on sites which are relevant to your niche. If you have a wedding photography blog then you would actively comment on these sites with good relevant feedback that will add to the discussion.
There are two types of tags implemented on the blogs in the source section. They are known as Nofollow and Dofollow! Google basically ranks a site by the quality of the Dofollow links that are pointing to your website.
NoFollow Blog Links!
Blog commenting on NOFOLLOW tages have ZERO effect on Search Engine rankings, and is a complete waste of time in terms of SEO.
Where Can You Find Dofollow Blogs!
A Quick method to find these blogs is by placing the keywords Dofollow Wedding Blogs in the Google search box. You will find hundreds of blogs that have these tags implemented on their sites. There are also software tools that can do the work for you when it comes to finding these Dofollow blogs.
A word of warning, Google has changed its laws and can penalise blog owners for spamming sites to increase their page ranks via automated means. So, build your links naturally over time rather than trying to get 1000 links pointing to your site in a week.
To check if a blog has enabled the Dofollow tags, Mozilla firefox has a great SEO plugin which can easily find the tags for you. Do a search on the Mozilla Firefox add on for Quick Search Status and install the plugin.
You will get knocked of your page rank faster that you got there! Earning respect from Google is by building your keyword campaign naturally. Avoid spamming blog sites, implement different URL’s when commenting to allow for deeper linking, indexing and of course making the process natural and in compliance with Google’s stringent rules.
BUT since many people used this system to post spam, most blogs have inserted the NOFOLLOW tag to their commenting systems, which tells Google and the other search engines to ignore the link. So keep it natural and don’t spam!
The Spanish words for “sixth bass” are Bajo Sextos. It is the name for a special type of musical instrument popular in a relatively small geographical area. The twelve string guitar is a strong component of musical groups formed and prevalent in the area of northern Mexico and southern Texas. It comes in both acoustic and electric forms.
The guitar-like instrument has twelve strings. They are arranged in six double courses. The strings are tuned from the lowest string to the highest string to the notes E, A, D, G, C and F respectively.
From the mid 1950s northern Mexican music has been listened to and enjoyed by Mexicans and Anglos alike. The music goes by several different names, musica mexicana-tejana and conjunto are the most common. The music genre is also known as Tex-Mex, but this is not totally accurate, since the nortena music predated conjunto.
Conjunto ensembles use the bajo to provide the low and rhythmic base line for the music. It enhances the musical line performed by the other instruments. The instrument also is used to carry the chord changes. The instrument is used to enhance other musical groups, but it is best known in the musical genre of nortena and conjunto.
Sextos instruments were originally used in a limited part of the Western Hemisphere. This means that the demand for the guitar might be somewhat limited too. Other stringed instruments such as guitars and banjos are well known. This instrument is not. The construction of a bajo gives you the variety of woods and finishes that are nothing but quality. The back and sides might be made of Indian rosewood, mahogany or cedar. The bridge and fingerboard is often made of rosewood. The top is typically cedar, but more exotic woods are found in some models.
The finish of the instruments is beautiful. The thickness of such instruments might vary somewhat, so the player can choose the instrument that is most comfortable. Many of such specialized guitars are finished with a decorative motif. Handcrafting is an art for those who create the instruments. Those bajos are highly prized.
For the serious performer who wants to be part of a quality group playing nortena music, the bajo sextos is almost a must. It is needed to provide a lower component to the melody and to move the chord changes along during the piece. The best made instruments are attractive to look at without being flashy and provide a sound that is unparalleled.
Many people today tend to be tuning into singing competitions to look at different performers swagger his or her goods. Nevertheless in many conversations I’ve had with various people today, most recognize that almost all the vocalists who audition for the television shows don’t have the first concept on how to use his or her singing voice correctly. They may have never taken singing coaching and quite a few really don’t even have a voice to begin with.
When comparing the various competitive events, it seems most of them fall flat apart from perhaps one or two entrants which have actual talent. And maybe this is the purpose of these programs. We simply cannot all be wonderful performers. Common sense will advise you those individuals who genuinely possess a gift involving singing tend to be unusual indeed.
Afraid to sing
I’d personally estimate that people are just as kept amused by the folks that lack vocalizing talent as they are those who possess this. Any time you watch American Idol, for example, the earliest try out programs are definitely the most fun on account of all of the wackos which believe they’re the future Rhianna or perhaps Michael Buble. And I should express there are times which I’ve never laughed harder in my life. And honestly, there are some which use these shows as a podium regarding their Fifteen minutes of fame.
And then I take a moment and also take into account the real people in the contests which have properly trained their own singing voices and undergone voice classes and music education to elevate their own natural talent. I oftentimes wonder if they may not be frustrated with the large numbers of individuals who misuse the judge’s time.
But cream will climb to the top. Talent can not be concealed for too long. And it would seem every year we uncover 1-2 diamonds in the rough who need to be in the spot light. I simply want that a lot more men and women would work hard at it. And I hope that individuals with some raw expertise would receive the proper music coaching in voice courses expected to go on to a higher level.

Vocalist Debi Smith started out as a soprano singing in church, but after college she became interested in jazz and started developing her alto range. She and Mary Chapin Carpenter began performing around Washington, DC about the same time, but when Smith’s sister Megan, who is five years younger, came home from college, they started touring together as The Smith Sisters.
Smith is a master of many skills. She is a composer and recording artist whose songs have captured six ASCAP popular music awards and been recorded by such artists as Tom Paxton and Al Petteway. With five solo albums to her credit, she has stashed away many Wammies (Washington Area Music Awards). Her latest double-disc CD, “The Soprano” and “The Soprano Christmas,” highlights the upper register of her three-octave range. In contrast, pop fans around the country know her as one quarter of The Four Bitchin’ Babes, solo artists who write and perform their own witty songs and share others in glorious harmony. She has been heard often as both soloist and ensemble member on national radio and telecasts, among them Prairie Home Companion, All Things Considered, PBS specials, CMT’s New Country, CBS Sunday Morning and Good Morning America.
Touring with TFBB has occupied a large chunk of Smith’s life since 1994. Next month they head for Florida and will be on the road until May, followed by the gigs at the shore during the summer.
Whether singing country, pop, folk, or jazz, Smith receives raves for her solo appearances accompanying herself on guitar. She is also a master of the bodhran, an Irish hand drum, which she played on the main theme song in Ken Burns’ “The National Parks” PBS documentary. She loves the bodhran and integrates it with most of the songs she writes.
Writing is cathartic for her and a way to honor her family. She has penned songs about her son, who suffers from autism, and songs about her parents, such as “My Mother’s Hands” and “My Father Was a Quiet Man.”
Nothing pleases her more than having someone come up with tears in their eyes and tell her how much her music has uplifted them.
